Love in lies
I ran my hand along the wall, the dresser, the bedpost, just to make sure it was all real.
When everyone went to bed, Emily stayed behind with me in the living room. We sat in silence for a while, just listening to the ticking clock.
“You know,” she said quietly, “you’re stronger than you think.”
I smiled faintly. “Maybe. Or maybe I just got tired of being broken.”
She looked at me, her eyes warm. “Either way, you made it.”
Deep down, something still lingered. A faint unease I couldn’t name, it felt like I was living a lie and I'd still go back to that hole. The deep scar in my chest throbbed, I held my chest tightly.
