Tuesday of the fifth week. Evie leaves the pub at eleven thirty, coat too light for the cold, backpack on her back. The street is narrow, poorly lit. I’m half a block behind, inside the car, engine running.
I see when a guy peels away from the shadow of the opposite wall. Hood up, dragging steps, approaching too fast.
“Shit,” I growl, already opening the door. “Zion, three o’clock!”
But Zion has already seen. He’s already moving.
