Colonel Hassan waited patiently.
Sarah paused again, as if weighing how much to reveal.
“My ex-husband remarried some years ago,” she began carefully. “Her name is Tiana.”
The colonel remained silent, allowing her to continue.
“She’s not his wife anymore,” Sarah added. “They divorced recently.”
Her voice carried a hint of exhaustion, like someone reopening an old wound she would rather forget.
“That woman,” Sarah continued slowly, “has been a thorn in my flesh ever since I returned to New York.”
