“So birds don’t bleed from their eyes.”
I was already slipping one arm into my jacket.
“Naomi, listen to me.” Emma’s voice was sharp enough to stop me. “Three people are dead, and now you’re telling me birds are falling out of the sky. Whatever is happening, it isn’t normal.”
“I know.”
“No, I don’t think you do.”
I paused with my hand on the apartment door.
Outside, the sirens had become constant.
Then my phone vibrated.
I frowned.
“I’m going to call you back,” I said.
