I was captivated by your voice.” She praised my story for covering up her immoral act of peeking in our personal matters, but her query didn’t let me reprimand her as she asked curiously. “Why did you tell this story with an altered ending, Ann? Didn’t the Prince come to Cinderella with her shoe, and they reconciled in the end? Why did you say that she opened a bakery and lived with her pets?”

Her nightmare had the fairy tale ending we hoped for, and the evil monster was banished from the kingdom. She threw her arms around me and cried into my chest. Happy tears.

Fairy tales always end in a happy ending; girls are taught that love is beautiful and magical from an early age. Everything will always be like a fairy tale... unfortunately, real life is not so magical and beautiful. And not all fairy tales end in a happy ending. "Mgh, agh. No matter how good a dream is, we always have to snap back from it. All fairy tales usually have a happy ending, the prince saves the princess from an ogre, a knight in shining armor saves a lady from a hulky brute of a man and so forth. But the world lies, that is not what always happens. Fairy tales rarely have a happy ending. The prince will save the princess and trip down some stairs, fall down and break his neck. Or the lady will live for a few years as a wife to the night and die from child birth. The story tellers never give the actual tale, the sell what appeases to the eye and heart.

Miss Yumi said, sweetly. "What about the last page?" Miss Yumi arched an eyebrow as she browsed through the storybook one more time. After turning to the last page, she held it up in front of the class for all to see. "See, there," she pointed to the left side of the page where Beauty and the Beast were dancing at the ball for their wedding. "And they lived happily ever after. That's how all fairy tales end, Cathedra." The mystified girl shook her head and pointed to the page at the right. "What about that one, Miss Yumi? There are still three words written at the top of the page. Then there's a moving picture. Then there are another five words written at the bottom of the picture."
