he hopelessly, foolishly grabbed the rope as though holding it would save him from hanging.
“Who is helping you?” she exhorted, her voice tinged with anger. Byron hadn't lied when he said he didn't know what a seraph is, but he was pretty sure it had something to do with angels, and if it made the demon this angry, maybe there was hope after all.
“No one,” he argued. His stool shook again, and he felt his feet doing a little dance to keep his perch.
“Someone,” she responded. “Someone summoned a wolf-seraph.”
