The phantom heat of Killian’s hands was instantly replaced by the biting, oily chill of a dirty floor. She lay there for a second, staring at a ceiling fan that didn't spin, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs as she mourned the loss of the dream.
The air here didn't smell like rain and cedar. It smelled of burnt rubber, old grease, and the stale, sulfurous rot of 2035.
