Xavier stated quietly. His voice was a low, dark rumble that vibrated heavily in the tight space. His piercing blue eyes were completely dilated, looking down at her with a heavy, primal hunger that instantly made the blood rush straight to her center. "I'm working," Hazel lied, her voice breathless and shaking. She gripped the cold metal edge of the shelf behind her just to keep her hands from trembling. "I need the old Q2 campaign files for tomorrow." Xavier stepped forward, completely closing the final gap between them.

She paused for a minute. "And based on what's in this book…" She closed it slowly. "We're going to wish we still had Xander as our biggest problem. This, what's coming, this is going to make everything we've survived feel like child's play, and this is just a hunch…" she trailed off. "What is the hunch?" Kyren asked. "I think Maya is connected to this thing way more than we want to know. I feel that all those times you saw Xander in your dreams, or had interactions with him, he might have embedded some track in you or perhaps made connections. Do you still have dreams about him?"
