Shock and fear melded in one, covered her face as her gaze met mine. My heartstrings tugged, and I wasted no time in dealing with the bastard. I didn't stop until I felt her hug me from behind. My breath caught in my throat, her scent enveloping me, filling me.

Monster Fang stepped out of the shelter of the dark doorway the moment I pulled my bike to a stop at the curb. His face was pensive. Yanking down the bandana from around my nose and chin, I made my way over to him. “Where is she?” Fang thrust a thumb over his shoulder, indicating that she was inside, but didn’t move out of my way so I could push through. Cyber had rung me, insistently until I had finally picked up his call fifty miles outside of town.

Rhaedon rolled, shaking it off, but Draven seized the moment, lunging at him with renewed fury. Fangs sank into Rhaedon's neck, drawing a guttural snarl from the russet wolf. Claws raked his belly, opening shallow wounds. Rhaedon fought back, jaws clamping on Draven's leg, crunching bone, but the rogue held on, shaking his head to tear deeper.

“They have smelled it“ lucien mummured. “Yes, they have... “ I replied, “... And more will follow. The first feral lunged from the trees, lucien moved like a blade drawn from its sheath. Blood magic flared as he tore through the first three in seconds, bodies snapping before they could scream. Two more rushed to my side. I stepped forward and caught one by the throat and twisted. The spine cracked with a dull crack as the body fell limply aside. The last feral tried to flee, but I was faster, I appeared before him, eyes glowing red as I seized it's neck and crushed it between my fingers.

He turns toward me and his eyes widen when he sees how badly I'm injured. "Get the pack healer here now!" he shouts at one of the betas. He starts walking toward me but then one of the Silverfangs that we thought was dead suddenly lunges up from the ground. His claws are extended and aimed straight at Damon's back. "Damon, look out!" Sarah screams. Damon spins around, but he's not fast enough. The Silverfang's claws sink deep into his side, ripping through skin and muscle. Damon grunts in pain and grabs the Silverfang by the throat, snapping his neck instantly.

Was my cover slipping? He stopped by a stone fountain and turned to face me. “You look and sound so familiar. What's your name?" "Vexley. I’m new here. Recently transferred."
