My heart pounded in my chest, and the tension felt unbearable. “Arghhh!” I panicked, overwhelmed by the fear that gripped me. I placed my hands on my head, pacing in frustration, feeling like I was about to break. My whole body trembled with fear and anxiety. I couldn’t stop myself,I collapsed to the ground, sobbing uncontrollably. “What if I lose him? What if he doesn’t make it?” My mind raced with terrifying thoughts. “No... he has to survive. He can’t leave me behind.” Tears poured down my face as I waited, my heart heavy with dread.

Gripped by fear and desperation, I pushed my car to its limits, every ounce of strength propelling me forward. "Please be safe, Charlotte. Please be safe," I whispered fervently, my prayers a constant refrain in the chaos of my thoughts. As the road blurred beneath me, the unknown future pressed heavily on my chest. The mere thought of something happening to Charlotte sent shivers down my spine, a cold dread settling in the pit of my stomach. "I can't lose her. I can't," I muttered to myself, the words a fragile mantra against the looming threat.

Terrified of the dark. I know all little kids fear the dark a little bit at some point, but the terror I feel go beyond the regular childhood fears of monsters under the bed or in the closet. I don’t fear being in the dark. I have an honest fear of the darkness itself. When I stare out into a complete deep shadow, it doesn’t feel empty, it feels overwhelmingly full.

I wanted power so badly, got it, yet fell just as badly. A slow breath slips through my nose as a shudder threatens to betray me, but I force it down. Fear is weakness. And I refuse to let them see fear in me. The doors creak open. Light spills into the dim space, harsh and blinding for a second. Two sentinels walk in without hesitation, their faces set in hard, unreadable lines as they move toward me.

Charlie remained silent. After a long pause, he let out a short, wry laugh. "...You really aren't afraid that I’ll run away, are you?" They say those who are loved have nothing to fear. She was drawn to me, despite the fear that I inspired in her. "You're evil," she spat, her voice trembling with rage. "You're a monster." Her words were laced with venom, but I could sense the underlying fear that drove her. I laughed, the sound echoing through her mind. "I'm not evil," I whispered. "I'm just a realist. I know what it takes to survive in this world, and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to achieve my goals." My words were laced with conviction, and I could sense Eileen's fear spiking in response.

It’s like going head first into a brick wall, as Charlie’s fear and pain flood my senses. At first it’s anger then a strong guilt, but then slowly fear trickles in. That small amount of fear triples within seconds. My breathing hitches and my head throbs, impossible and unneeded actions, but the bond creates them. Her pain is my pain. Some people say it’s a warning to prepare yourself for the worst. No matter how awful I feel, I can sense a glimmer of hope, her fighting.

It’s easier for her to say she but I need her to give me something more. As her head juts up, I notice the fear etched on her face. My eyes widen as my heart races faster and faster. My breathing is shallow, and my palms are slippery with sweat. I feel paralysed with fear. If the gods are scared, what can that mean? “Run Aurora, they’ve found you,”
