He hummed kissing me all the way up to my jaw as I made incoherent sounds at the back of my throat. "I'm burning." I let out as I grabbed his cheeks between both of my hands and made him look at me. Maybe that way, he'll see how miserable and agitated I was. I felt like my body was no longer mine. It felt so new and it wanted more than just simple touches and kisses. "My body is burning for you Caesar. Please do anything, I don't care. Take care of it, I completely trust you." He placed a small kiss on my lips and then went back to looking at me in admiration.

I took the torch, feeling its threatening heat, and began to spread the fire around the Cabin. The flames came to life, consuming the wood with insatiable voracity. My heart raced as the flames grew, becoming a fiery metaphor for my determination to eliminate any obstacle between me, Hunter, and our future child. The crackling of the flames echoed in the forest's quiet, but my mind was focused on making a decision that would change the course of things in the pack. The fire was my answer, an action rooted in the conviction that Fierce should no longer cast a shadow over our destiny.

I had earlier on made a constructive prophecy that came out of simple imagination and suspicion about something relating to cold and ice on conjunction with the winter. Seemed I was right though, I’m always right. The winter comes with unimaginable cold, sometimes overwhelming and brutal. We all know that living things like to take cold substances but in ourselves, we don’t want to get extremely cold as the substance. How dare venture into the ice road or ice water, seems death is beaconing on you. No one with his or her right senses goes in contact with ice. That’s the same way it is with our lives. Having to pull men through tents and snap their heads, because there was a high possibility they would heal again. Yet he had to be thankful for the twins. Who psychotically, and happily set them on fire or drove Icicles through their head.

Not waiting to behold the fallout, I scramble out of the dining room, fleeing back to the nursery. Once back in the room, I ignite a taper from the room's only wall sconce. I make my way to my dark cell, lighting the little oil lamp on the nightstand next to my sleeping pallet. The small oil lamp sheds enough light for me to open my newly acquired trunk and grab another woolen tunic. I change and performing a cursory exam of the fading burn marks on my thighs, relieved that the soup is not any hotter because this is a time where I could die from a splinter.

I became a bit better after I wore a pair of gloves and warm thick slacks with the shirt. As I strode back to the bed, my eyes caught the view of steady fire from the hearth. A line I had vaguely seen in a book while I hurriedly riffled through its pages popped into my head - ‘burning as the flames of the furnace, triggering an absurd color of the skin; a tickling effect in the layers of the flesh, popping the veins out― demons-bane’.

I flexed my fingers, feeling the tremor in the air, the subtle curl of heat, the whisper I’d grown used to. They thought I was gone. The thought made a laugh tremble through me, dry and ragged. Gone. Burned to nothing. But I was more than flesh. I was flame, bone, blood sharpened by pain. And I would survive. I forced myself upright, legs trembling under the weight of hunger and exhaustion. Every breath was sharp, every movement a potential spark. My senses screamed at me: the rustle of leaves, the distant cry of a bird, the faint scent of damp soil mixing with the tang of smoke. I closed my eyes, focusing, centering. One wrong move could ignite the world.

“I should’ve finished you the first time.” My hands clawed at hers, but I was weak and blind. I couldn’t breathe. My chest burned. My throat tightened. Coughs ripped from me—until— Then, suddenly, my bones began to burn—as if something inside me had been set on fire. Pain shot through every inch of my body. My heart pounded so hard I thought it would shatter my chest. I couldn’t breathe. It was the same thing that had happened before—the same thing that made me kill Kale.

Chapter 44: The Heat The fever started in the marrow of my bones. It was not the slow and creeping warmth of a summer afternoon. It was a violent arson. It started deep in my lower abdomen and spread outward like a shockwave of liquid fire. My skin felt too tight for my body. My nerves screamed with a sensitivity that made the brush of my own hair against my shoulder feel like sandpaper. I lay on the cold stone floor of the trophy room. I pressed my cheek against the granite hearth. I prayed the ice in the stone would leach the heat from my blood.
