The words shattered something in me. I clutched him tighter, wanting to take his pain into myself. But above us Serenya laughed, the sound slicing into my ears like glass.
“Burn then,” she mocked, lifting her hand. Silver fire coiled higher, devouring the night. “Burn until there’s nothing left but ash and regret.”
