Glass lanterns floated midair, enchanted by Kaius himself, each shining with soft golden flames. And above us? A sky bruised in lavender and soft peach, the clouds scattered like spilled petals. Pulling this off wasn't easy but it was worth it. I'd asked for Wilder’s blessings a while ago, spoken to Kaius, and have Ryan and Thaddeus set this whole thing up.

Each ripple sent sparks of color gliding over the surface. Above them stretched a fair, radiant sky brushed through with long golden streaks, like light had been combed into the heavens. There was no vegetation anywhere—no grass, no flowers, no trees. Only towering rocks encircled the vast place, and from their heights poured silver falls that should have descended but instead seemed touched by enchantment, their waters glimmering with a strange, weightless grace.

No one knew that the girl was already living a peaceful life in a quiet town. One spring morning, I walked to the market with a wicker basket. The flower vendor smiled, handing me a vibrant bunch of peach blossoms. "These suit you beautifully, dear," she said warmly. I inhaled the sweet scent and felt the last tether to my past snap cleanly away. Barrett once said I should shine on the dance floor. Because… it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. Beyond the gate stretched a vast landscape bathed in silver-blue light. Towering trees rose in the distance, their trunks white as ivory and their branches made of crystal frost that glittered like stars. Massive flowers bloomed across endless meadows, glowing in shades of pale blue, violet, and silver. Rivers of liquid light wound through the land, sparkling like molten moonlight. Islands floated in the sky.

Ezra I never understood the term ‘Cloud Nine’ before now. It always seemed like a ridiculously romantic idea to hear people say they felt like they were walking on clouds or had their head in the clouds, or both. Yet here I am. Just call me ridiculously romantic. “What is this?” Margot asks me. “Flowers,” I say. I can’t stop smiling. My face hurts because I can’t stop smiling, and yet, the smile doesn’t stop. “Since when do you pick flowers for me?”

Richard asked. "Technically, you just did,"Janet laughed. "You must be very bat at grammar, there is a difference between cute, pretty and beautiful,"Richard replied. "Oh really Mr. Grammar? Tell me their differences,"Janet requested. Before Richard could reply, he noticed the lightings in the cloudy sky. "Oh my God, we are in trouble,"Richard said. "What is it?"Janet asked worriedly. "I think is going to rain,"Richard responded. "Oh my goodness, you scared the hell out of me Richard, I thought it was something serious,"Janet answered.

I wasn't about to wreck a home. "So dumb." I wipe my eyes on my knees, but the tears don't stop. I look up and can see people making their way through the trees towards me. I sniff and rest my chin on my hands. My eyes trail down, and through my blurry vision, I can see dozens and dozens of flowers blooming around me. I furrow my brow, wiping at my eyes again and moving to sit on my knees and crouch over the flowers. I hadn't wiped my hands on the ground, but they were still blooming. Pink ones, purple, white. Still smaller than a quarter, but slightly bigger than the last ones I made bloom. And there were a lot more of these too. They continued to appear around where I sat as I watched.

Just his eyes burning into mine. He was for a fourteen year old. I let him into my life, he held on the bumpy ride. I put up my first flower on the wall that day, next to a butterfly. It was a rose.

Fluffy clouds painted the celestial canvas, morphing into shapes that mirrored their dreams and desires. "Look," Emily whispered, pointing to a cloud that resembled a heart. I could see the way her chest would rise and fall rapidly, her eyes wide as Micah whispered in her ear.
