I step inside, and blink. This isn't the sinister lair I braced for, skulls and bubbling cauldrons, shadows dripping menace. Instead, books. Everywhere. Stacked in teetering piles on shelves, chairs, the floor, some sprawled open like they've given up. Dried flowers dangle from the ceiling, faded petals shedding dust. Bottles crowd the windowsills, contents shimmering in unnatural hues, emerald glows, midnight blues that swirl on their own. A faint fire crackles in the hearth, casting warm flickers that chase the underground chill.
