I shift, tearing my clothing to ribbons, and shoot into the sky. Thunder and lightning battle around me for what feels like miles as I try to fly above it, where the oxygen is thin and the air so cold ice begins to form along my back and wings. The Dragon’s body’s length almost reached the cliff’s top wall. Deril couldn’t believe it. The lizard he had always considered disgusting turned out to be a dragon. Luckily, when Deril insulted him, the Dragon was not angry. If only the Dragon in the form of a lizard was angry, Deril was not in this place now. “Queenie! How could that be? A large ball of light gathered before her. So overwhelming was this ball of light that the sun that stood within the sky was submerged by this light, and the rain that fell was forced to come to a standstill. It swallowed the flames of the dragon and caused its wings to become weighty. Seeing that ball of light, the dragon’s eyes opened widely in surprise, and its breath became laboured. Without any hesitation it opened its maws wide and gathered as much fire power as it could.

He glanced at Meg, who stared in awe at the snow-white dragon that was Piper. She reached up to touch her, and Piper bumped her hand

She had watched as they set everything ablaze, their massive wings fanning the flames as they burned the brightness and vibrancy of existence into nothingness. Now, a black splotch of scorched acreage, lying dead. Yet, something about them had her intrigued. She had to admit, she was impressed given their size, how they moved with such grace and elegance, as if they were the true rulers of life and death. How they stayed at just the right height as they maneuvered through the sky, swooping in and out as if they were playing a child’s game of chase with smoke and fire. She watched as intelligence swam behind the eyes of the dragon that had found her, yet never gave her away.

Harris thought it was so magical being in the sky and looking at the two large dragons flying on their right. Harris could easily tell which one was Lana. Her dragon was almost half the size of Adonis and Atticus. Draven was bigger than both. His wing span was larger, and his body was twice the size of Lana's. Draven’s tail stretched out longer than the other two dragons. The spikes along his head and neck were sharper, more pronounced and longer, and his talons looked deadlier.

I should never have put on that dress. It was a long flight through the darkness. No dragon enjoyed night flying, especially a long night flight, as, although a dragon’s night vision was far superior to a human’s, it was effective only within a short range, and the speed at which a dragon flew meant that there was little warning if something was in the sky with them. Mostly, this meant that a dragon might encounter a night-flying bird or bat, occasionally a magical creature or witch on a broomstick, but now, with the monsters, night flying was far more hazardous.
