Fool's Fate Novels & Stories

He shoveled a heap of coal in as I watched. "I am free and I am a fool." He continued with a shrug. My fingers gripped around the shovel. Had I been stupid to speak against him? "Fools have nothing but other fools amongst them." He paused, turning around as he leaned against his shovel, "if you make it past the maze, the shadows, the forest, and the wolf," he grumbled, taking out a bottle of ale he had tucked in his pocket.

"Right. Seven years… I lived off stale bread with you. I was there when the debt collectors came banging on our door. I thought we were toughing it out together, but the whole time I was just grinding myself down alone." Audrey shook her head frantically, terror flooding her eyes, looking completely wrecked. "That's not true. I only ever loved you. Micah was nothing, I swear, it was all an act!" "An act?" I echoed it back, flat and quiet. "Handing him the deal that was mine was an act? Sitting with him while he got his wisdom teeth pulled, leaving me to sign my own palliative care papers alone—was that also an act?" I turned my head back toward the window, where the sun was sinking red into

I thump my hands against my temples, trying to shake it out, but the memories reappear, unwanted and vivid… my Uncle Faelan, his face twisted with that constant, simmering contempt, his voice a knife. You are a fool, Thorin! Shadowfen gets weak day by day! We need to act while we can, not hide based on old agreements! Your weakness will be your downfall! And my father's roar, which I had once foolishly believed to be strength, now echoes… desperate. I shall not march our people to death for your whims, Faelan! Not while I draw breath! That fight was brutally merciless, the air thick with a tension that I could not understand. And on the morning after… nothing. Faelan was simply gone. Exiled.

"There they are! That shameless pair! They hurt Rick and still dare to hold a funeral here? Hypocrites!" When they saw me, it was like they'd found their target. Anything they could throw came flying my way. "This is all your fault! You set him up!" Hard, cold objects slammed into my body. I tried to stop them, but a man lunged forward and shoved me hard to the ground. In the chaos, a heavy candlestick crashed against my head. My vision went black, and I passed out. In less than ten minutes, the enraged "fans" had reduced the funeral hall to rubble.

The crowd slowly started to disperse as Milo, the she-wolf, and I waited on stage, unsure of what to do in this situation. "CAN ONE OF YOU EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT IS GOING ON!?!" Former Alpha Gerald yelled as soon as the room emptied. Feeling the effects of his Alpha voice, I bared my neck to him; Milo being of Alpha blood and the true Alpha of the Pack, didn't feel the effects. "Isn't it obvious." Milo chuckled darkly, "The Goddess Selene has decided to play an awful joke on us. She's paired Godrick and me with the same she-wolf."

"Fool boy. Didn't Cassie teach you anything? Love is a weakness. One you'll soon come to regret." In a sudden rush, he leaped at me, a knife glinting with deadly intent in his grip. Reflexes honed by sports took over instantly. I dodged swiftly to the side, narrowly evading the fatal arc of the knife. His momentum drove forward. Edward and I seized the opportunity, grabbing his wrist and trying to take away his knife.

the King asked suspiciously. "Come now, my liege," the fool pouted, "think you I would resort to such trickery and jeopardize us all?" Finnbheara templed his fingers and studied the fool. Un-predictable, cunning, and careless, the jester had not yet been foolish enough to risk their race. "Go on." The fool cocked his head and his smile gleamed in the half-light. "It's simple. The wedding can't take place now. King James is going to destroy the Douglas. Oh, the Comyn too," he added irreverently.

LEWIS "The fool totally failed," a rough looking man stated. "He went ballistic when he learned that someone was being sent to accompany him. Now he totally failed and f*cked up our plans," he added. "I don't think so," an old woman beside him said. "We all saw the building being destroyed. He succeeded in doing his job, after all." "You don't say that, old woman," the first man said. "If he really succeeded, then why is this thick barrier placed here?"

You faked medical records, took my baby into that clinic, and drained her dry… then manipulated me into abandoning Bella and Lily to flee the country with you! With every sentence, he slammed her head against the wall, harder and harder, until her screams filled the room. "This is all YOUR fault!" Logan roared. "Your lies cost me Bella! Your scheming killed Lily! You deserve to die for this!" Joann suddenly shoved back, her eyes burning with venom. "NO—this is on YOU! You're the one who betrayed her! You're the one who let Lily die! What did I do? Seduce you? Please, did I hold a gun to your head?

The old man chuckled, "You always forget what I had told you before. When we were moved here by Seriona, do you think that it’s just for us to be stopped from harming the humans?" "She had let my wife die! And after, when I came to take back the lives of those who took hers, we were punished for it! "Humans were dying, yes, but our people died too," Old Fool said. "She has to find a way to save the humans from us as she saves us from them as well. And if you are going to ask me, I think she made the right decision to do that. She did not do all that to punish us, you know?"
