Cameron looked at me again, and this time there was something in his expression that did not feel completely empty, something that almost looked like confusion mixed with something else he could not name.
“That is an unverified claim,” he said, although his voice lacked the same certainty as before.
“Then verify it,” I said. “Walk away.”
He blinked slightly, clearly caught off guard by the challenge.
“What?” he asked.
“Walk away,” I repeated. “If I do not matter, then leaving should be easy.”
