The book had recounted the story of the ‘Silver Star’, a figure from legend who was said to possess magical abilities. Strange, that I would hear those words in my dreams like a vision from a past life: “Silver Star, remember who you are…” As I waited for the elevator, however, I shook off my lingering unease from last night’s nightmare. It was just that: a nightmare. That was it.

The firelight from the hearth flickered against the towering bookshelves, casting moving shadows across the worn wooden floor. “It’s here,” Kelda murmured at last, her voice carrying an almost reverent tone. Her silver-blue eyes glinted as she leaned closer to the text, examining the runes etched into the faded vellum. “The Starfire bond... it’s older than we even imagined.” Across the oak table, Liza looked up sharply, her pen poised halfway through a line in her leather-bound journal. She smiled weakly and hurried back to the trees, pace quickening. She burst into the woods, chest heaving, and thrust the hairpin into Liora’s hand. “She’s cold,” Elara said, wide-eyed. “Her hand was ice.” The moment Liora’s fingers closed on the silver starflower, the world dissolved. She wasn’t herself. The pin was forged in love, a gift from husband to wife. Lost in grief, dropped on a funeral day. Lying in dust for years, soaking in sorrow.

Fear spiked, white-hot and blinding. “Eryndra,” I gasped inwardly, my knees threatening to fail. “It’s silver. They’ll kill me.”
