If he hadn’t come back this morning, she wouldn’t be having these doubts about her father's plan. Stop it, she ordered herself. She had no choice. Her father had her passport. I met her eyes. “Free worlds are dangerous, Queen.” Chase slowly stood, still holding Fia. “We’ll handle it.” I gave a humorless smile. “You always think that.” Fia looked up at me. “Did I break something?” I knelt in front of her so we were eye to eye. “Yeah. You broke the thing that was supposed to tell you how to live.”

Her mother’s spark glowed, its voice proud: “You’ve woven eternity.” Jessica turned to her companions, her heart full. “We’re guardians forever,” she said, her voice steady, a smile breaking through. Kade pulled her close, his love her strength. Selene’s glow lit the way, her wisdom their guide. Lucas’s fists bumped hers, his trust their anchor. Bryan’s hope pulsed, their spark. If you want some freedoms you can earn them. I forced back the retort pointing out that I'd had freedoms, but he'd had a point. If I'd wanted to go certain places I hadn't been able to. Not alone. But I wouldn't be entirely free under his example either. It would just be trading one set of freedoms for another, and only if I was lucky enough to be bought by someone who could be reasoned with. Even I knew that there was a subset of even the kindest alien race that were complete asshats. Every family had one and every species. It seemed to be just how the universe worked.

I smile to myself listening to my words, my imaginations, we will be free today. The day goes by quickly and soon its 7pm, the party being at 9pm, the house is a ruffle of happiness, for them, a betrothal, from what I heard, Zane finally agreed to it if he doesn’t find his mate tonight, and for me, my escape, from this cruel pack, into my very own world, my own terms, on this full moon, I gain my freedom.
