The gold pen and the heavy leather folder slipped from my grip, falling through the air and hitting the marble floor with a sharp, echoing crash.
Lucian’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief. "What are you doing?"
I took one step backward, putting distance between us, my voice finally breaking the long silence low, soft, and colder than the rain beating against the glass.
"If you want my blood, Lucian," I whispered, "you're going to have to take it by force."
