We were having lunch on the villa's terrace, surrounded by perfectly manicured gardens and the sound of fountains.
"I keep having those dreams," I said, picking at my salad. "They're getting clearer.
"His hand froze halfway to his mouth.
"What kind of dreams?"
"The man with dark hair. Last night, I could almost see his face. He was calling my name, but not Lila. He was calling me something else."
He smiled, talking softly as though talking to a child. "Dreams aren't real, darling. They're just your injured mind creating fantasies."
"But it felt so real. He was reaching for me, and I wanted to reach back. I wanted to go to him."
