“Eat something. You’ll need the energy. We’ll meet you there after we drop some things off at the office.”
Elias nodded, eating quickly. The doorbell rang. Elara stepped inside, already dressed in her elegant white and gold costume under a coat, looking excited and focused.
“Bye,” Elias said, waving at his dads as he grabbed his bag.
“We’ll see you there,” Dave called after him. “Good luck, son.”
Elara was waiting in the car. She grinned when she saw him. “You look sharp. Ready to crush it?”
“As ready as I’ll ever be,” Elias said, sliding into the passenger seat. They drove off toward the rink, the car filled with Elara’s upbeat music and light chatter to keep the nerves at bay.
