"You should stop changing the subject, Madison—we're talking about the bastard you're carrying in your belly right now. "You see, the records in the notebook have made it clear that you only slept with Anthony three weeks ago, but the ultrasound says you're six weeks along. Who exactly is the father of the child, Madison?" I clenched my fists until my fingernails dug into my palms, the sharp pain helping me hold onto my last shred of composure. I stared directly at Anthony, who was standing behind Emily, and asked, "Do you not believe me too, Anthony? Do you think I've been cheating on you?"

] My hand froze. Even breathing hurt. I kept scrolling. Next was a private group chat with his coworkers. Coworker: [Tyler, is that crazy-loyal backup girlfriend from your hometown still waiting for you to marry her? When are you gonna tell her?] Tyler sent a helpless sticker. [Soon. I'm waiting for her to put the down payment on the condo we're buying and add me to the deed. I'm not in a rush. She is.] Everyone knew. His friends. His coworkers.

"Umm, yeah,“ She replied, gaining her composure. “You're to apply this on your face before any other-“ “Why not just go and apply for a make-up class? Or better still you can just apply for an online class if you think you're too old enough to attend a class,“ Lucas interrupted the sales rep yet again. I swear this guy is getting on my nerves. I can't believe I dated this idiot before. I'm so glad that he cheated on me. "I can see that you've got nothing better to do with your life that's why you're seeking attention,“ I said, sardonically.

And that my unborn child would become nothing more than the lifeline to his so-called "true love." I realized—it would take a very long time before I could truly let go. When I landed, I removed the SIM card from my phone. I didn't throw it away; I just tucked it into a hidden pocket inside my bag. Then I inserted a new card.

Seeing my cold, indifferent expression, Laurence's face darkened. "Dakota, do you really have no feelings left for me after all these years?" I gave a humorless laugh. "Feelings? During the five years we were together, you had been cheating on me with Zoey for four of them!" Laurence had been interested in Zoey back in college, but at the time, he was just a poor guy, and Zoey hadn't given him the time of day. It wasn't until four years ago, when they ran into each other at a reunion, that things changed.

“Or have you forgotten? You’re Sid’s Luna. He trusted you with an entire pack, and this is how you repay him?” She staggered back, panic flashing in her eyes. “I don’t need a lecture from a prude like you! Look at you—so self-righteous, so boring, so dull! A fucking buzzkill! No wonder Tristan got sick of you!” “You think cheating is cool? Sleeping around makes you impressive? Do you have no shame?” “Oh, give me a break! At least I have men who want me. What do you have?” She shot me a mocking smile. She wasn’t even the least bit ashamed of what she did. I don’t think you’re getting out of here that easily. It’s either the police station or the courthouse. You’re really quite busy, Ms. Whitecastle,” I mocked. Vanessa replied disdainfully, “Give it up, Redmond. The Day family will fall before the Whitecastle family does!” “Then, let’s just wait and see how things shake out!”

Like a recurring dream that turns into a nightmare, I kept coming back again and again to our heartbreaking conversation at the very end: Would you have cheated on me? Maybe not in two weeks, maybe not in two months… maybe not even in two years… but eventually? …yes. Probably. At some point, yes. You would have cheated on me before you got famous? …probably. Just with… somebody you met in a club? Maybe. The scorpion couldn’t have spoken any more clearly than that. And worst of all, the final jab, the one that tore my heart clean out of my chest:

A few minutes later, a message popped up. Who are you cheating with who? He replied. I don't know. I am confused. Chrys, is it still cheating even though you are not yet in a relationship? Chrystyn replied. The commitment is not the ground basis for cheating, I think. It's the feelings. He did not reply. It is silly of him to think that he's cheating with both of them. Was it even called cheating when you are not in a relationship? Based on Chrystyn, yes, it is, and it's based on feelings. He sighed. He picked up his phone again.
