He reached for his phone, his thumb hovering over a command. "Don't bother," the Old Man said. "Look at the screen." A massive TV on the wall flickered to life. It showed a live news feed, but the headline wasn't about the Lu scandal. It was about a massive cyber-attack that had allegedly corrupted the legal databases of the city.

Ezra finally looks at me. “Nothing about this is good.” My phone vibrates on the bedside table. Then vibrates again. And again. I reach for it cautiously. The notifications don’t stop. Messages. News alerts. Emails. Dozens of them. Hundreds. Matteo groans from the couch without opening his eyes. “Please tell me the apocalypse got canceled.” “Something like that.” I unlock the phone. I slept throughout the night without even waking up. This shit was infected. And I knew it would take time to heal. Suddenly, my phone buzzed. My hands were shaky and cold. I slid them into my pocket and managed to bring my phone out.
