Their eyes glowed gold, then silver, then bright blue. Their bones cracked, skin began to shift. And then, two wolves stood in their place. Beautiful. Born of the moon. The arena broke into cheers. Amarok dropped to his knees, his wolf rising as he pressed into Tara's fur. Geri did the same. But it didn't end there. The shift faded, and the girls lay bare, covered quickly with blankets. Then a scent hit them—new and electric. The four of them froze. From the crowd, two men stepped forward. One dark-haired, eyes the color of thunderclouds. The other golden and broad, his gaze glowing violet.

The smell of singed hair filled the clearing. Sit., hazel commanded this time with boldness. All wolves dropped, their bellies hitting the dirt, heads down and ears flat, breathing in the dust. Gaius lowered his sword an inch. "You controlled them. Four rogue wolves. Just like that." "They're not rogues," Hazel said softly. She stepped closer to the largest one. Her feet were careful and slow. "Look at their eyes, that's not the wildness of an exiled wolf, a rogue's eyes are supposed to be red, this is something else, something darker and shallow."

"Weren't they wiped out years ago?" My jaw clenched and I felt my wolf roar in anger. Quiet down Frost. "As you can see, we are alive," Mason said, keeping his voice monotone. "And here for the Howl Gathering festival." The murmurs around us increased. The Snowcap pack had gone into extinction seven years ago. At least that was what everyone thought had happened.

Winter was grey and Aava had a golden and brown mix. Season was a mix of grey and black. Hunter was white. I nodded back and ran after them.

If these were Azami’s memories, I could understand why she felt such hatred towards wolves. Through the smoke and the haze, I could make out several figures, clad in traditional werewolf armor and carrying swords. Even though the vision was blurry by this point, something caught my eye. One of the wolves took their helmet off. I couldn’t quite make out their face, but their hair tumbled free, an elaborate braid draping over their shoulder. A war braid, one that I had only ever seen one person wear. The wolf spoke, but I couldn’t make out the words. Whether that was because the memory had faded over the years or if Azami just couldn’t understand at the time, I didn’t know.

oh Goddess . the scent of her is a delirious mix of smells and emotions and memories: a wild run through pine forests, a plunge into cool water, the mewls of a newborn pup, the madness of the moon's call ... The other two wolves pad after her. Fulvio's giant ginger wolf (though he insists its gold-coloured) and Graydon Airwolf. Graydon seems so much younger in his wolf form. Elder hardly seems right though he has the same air of restrained power as in his human form.
