Ahead stretched the third-level main corridor, eerily quiet.
“According to the patrol schedule, this hall should be empty,” Orion whispered, frowning.
He spoke too soon. Two figures appeared at the far bend, elite guards, their frost armor glimmering like polished bone. Their gait was calm, disciplined. They were not patrolling lazily. They moved like predators. Veterans. Men too devoted to be distracted by festivals or joy.
“Damn,” Orion hissed. “They’re not on Anya’s schedule.”
Rayden didn’t panic. He glanced at Orion, a short, sharp look filled with silent understanding. I take the right. You take the left.
