Behind us, the plaza moaned—distant drones dragging themselves out of rubble, sirens wailing in a broken loop, the ever-present hum of the dying city. Beside me, my skin still tingled where Corvin’s hands had been. My ribs ached under the fresh bandage. His warmth felt like an echo in the narrow doorway we’d just left. The almost-kiss clung to the back of my mind, unhelpfully vivid. “Okay,” Jax said, drawing in a breath. “So. Talking doors. That’s new. Does anyone have the cheat code?” “There’s no code,” Grant said grimly. “They mean it. You don’t get in unless the Gate’s fed.”

The Map Rewrites Itself The next morning, Dahlia brought us her newest revelation. "Look at this," she said, unrolling her parchment. The map had changed. Not by her hand. By magic. A new gate had appeared. West of the Flame Range. In territory long abandoned by both wolf and Hollow. It pulsed with a color none of us had seen before: violet. Instantaneously, a purple-gold gate materialized, emitting an expansive, Anonymous Gas. James waved his hand, and Thea, carried by two dragons, vanished into the gate’s radiant lights. “What sorcery is this?” Taichu gasped, hand over mouth. Marius’ eyes widened in shock as he witnessed the gate’s closure. “He can use that mysterious energy to open a spatial gate? Could this mean a sixth gate is about to appear?” “A sixth gate?” Taichi’s disbelief was palpable. As the gate disappeared, James directed his gaze toward Gryphon, who hovered above.

Tears rolled down my eyes. What was I going to do? The security man escorted me to the gate. I turned around looking back at the house, before turning to walk away. I dragged my luggage along with me. I stood at the gate. Maybe he might come out later and I might try to convince him that the lady in the picture isn't me. I wanted to cry. Who would do such a thing to me? I haven't wronged anyone.

At its center stood the Gate. Not like the others. This one wasn’t carved or summoned. It grew. It rose from the earth like an obsidian tree, pulsing with light that was neither fire nor shadow but something between—a third path. Seraphina stepped forward. The ring on her finger disintegrated into ash. Her gauntlet flared white-hot. And the Gate spoke. --- “You are late,” it said—not aloud, but into every corner of her mind. Seraphina froze. Her breath caught.

"The third gate." Gabriel rushed toward the navigation screen. Aria followed. "What happened?" He checked the coordinates. "We're too late." "Too late for what?" "The Third Gate." Lorenzo stood. "Explain." Gabriel pointed at the screen. "We're supposed to arrive in New York in three hours." "And?" "The gate activated twenty minutes ago." Silence filled the aircraft. Aria stared at the screen. "Who activated it?" Gabriel's face was grim. "I don't know."

Chapter 7 We all head down the main pack road toward the pack gate. The gate is a beautiful deep maroon color with black spikes on the top, with two wrought-iron silver enhanced doors, as well as a moon with a black Eclipse shaded in red outline, with white indents to show the craters on the moon and the glow in the center when the doors are closed. We were shocked when we saw the name appear above the gate in an arch and the Eclipse formed in the center. “I guess the packlands accepted the name we chose,” I said.

I helped Aunty in arranging the place for sitting and all as the entering kitchen around her is a no entry zone when she is around. Everyone reached in the evening, and I am actually seeing a silent war here. My parents are standing away from his parents except the polite nods.
