Rescued by the Beast
“Can I get you something to drink?”
I needed something to calm my nerves. Something stronger than a cocktail.
“A whiskey would be great, thanks,” I replied.
She moved backward in her seat, turned, then propelled the chair to the liquor cabinet. It was only then I realized she was sitting in a wheelchair, and her right leg was missing below the knee.
“I’m Geneviève,” she introduced herself. “The better half of the gene pool,” she joked, resting her only foot on the metal footplate of her wheelchair. Her classy stiletto looked as new as the day it was made.
