It fleshes out the camaraderie the knights are supposed to have.

Where I think some fics stumble is with the more cosmic-scale relationships, like the Archons' histories. It's tough to write a convincing millennia-old bond between Zhongli and Venti without it feeling either too flippant or overly ponderous. The ones that work best ground their ancient rapport in small, modern gestures, a shared joke over osmanthus wine that carries the weight of centuries without spelling it all out.
