After a moment of silence, she whispered, “They say this place is haunted.” Jackson’s jaw tightened as he struggled with a response. Should he admit to her that he agreed with the rumor? By now, we’ve all had more than a few drinks, and we’re halfway between tipsy and passed out. “Let’s tell scary stories,” Laura, one of my friends, suggests. “Are you sure that’s a good idea?” Kara asks. “These woods are spooky at night. I have to be able to sleep, you know.” “Maybe we should call one of those hunky forest rangers for you,” I suggest with a laugh. “He’d better bring a friend,” Laura says. “Or twelve,” Diana, another friend of mine, adds. We all laugh, and Laura starts in on the first story about night walkers, ghostly figures who march through the forest.

He’s said that before—but what lengths will he go to get it? “What do you think will happen if one of them wakes up?” He turns his head, looking out over the girls spread across the living room. When I turned back around, I noticed a new note pinned to the table. It was the same familiar handwriting, but the strokes seemed to carry a hint of chill this time. "Squanderer." I froze, then started laughing out loud. So this ghost couldn't just cook—she was also a thrifty, budget-conscious woman. I liked that. I immediately grabbed a pen and wrote back, "Sorry, Ivy. I was just joking. From now on, let's stick to regular dishes. I won't bring up such ridiculous things anymore." I made sure to apologize sincerely.

I remembered a story my mom told me when I was younger. “There was once an old mansion far away from a hidden, forgotten town,” I began “It was said to be haunted by the spirit of a young woman. The woman was a bride who had died on her wedding night.” Sarah and Emily gasped.

I asked suddenly anxious “There is good news and bad news which one do you want to hear first?” she asked “Good news” I laughed “We're having a sleep over!” she screamed “What is the bad news then?” I asked “The school called my mom that I missed school so they definitely called your home too,” she told me “Oh hell is about to break loose but at least I get to have a sleepover before I pass away” I joked and we both laughed “We have to make this the best sleepover ever, I am honored to be the only guest of your best sleepover,” she said giving me a little curtsy

Thus, they ended up talking about mundane things with Nerine, laying it on thick. Talk about gabby. Even bone-dry and thirsty, they would not stop yapping. "Ever hear about the Ghostly Mansion? They say it's full of weird, spooky stuff," one piped up. "Don't freak us out! Those are probably just tall tales," another countered. "Who cares? If we run into something, we'll just snap a few pics with our eyes shut and make a killing selling them." They were all off to the Costa family's place for some 'adventure', but each had their own angle. What they were really up to, well, that was their little secret.
