I reached out and pressed the radio button on the steering wheel. My voice was cold, cutting through the static. "Mason Vale, do you see a ghost in your mirror?" I said coldly into the radio. Those words pierced straight through Mason's last line of composure. His car hesitated for an obvious instant on the straight. Now. I smashed the throttle down. The car tore through the air and pulled alongside him. Ahead was a chain of fast S-curves. Seeing that I was about to pass, a vicious look flashed through Mason's eyes.

In the moonlight, a woman in a white lace dress was kneeling on the stone steps of the chapel, her face buried in her hands, her shoulders trembling. She had no feet. Below her dress, there was only a swirling black mist. "I see her." Lorenzo let out a low whistle. "Two years ago, Marco put her in the ground right there. Her ashes are buried under the rose bushes behind the chapel." I didn't stop, walking straight toward the chapel. Giovanni froze behind me but didn't dare to call out. As I reached the bottom of the steps, the female ghost's head snapped up. She lunged at me, her face a sickly pale green, her eye sockets empty black pits.

Leah lunged forward. “Stop! Don’t touch him! He’s still here, I know he is!” “Ma’am,” the doctor said gently, “his heart stopped. There’s nothing left we can do.” Ghost suddenly stepped forward. His voice was low, rough, but steady. “You’re wrong.” The doctor blinked. “Excuse me?” “You heard me,” Ghost snapped. “You’re wrong. He’s not gone.” “Son,” another doctor started, his voice soft, “I know this is hard, but—”

But he has a network people in high places, people you wouldn’t expect.” Matteo scoffed. “That is not news.” Viktor gave a weak smile. “I wasn’t finished.” He looked at Adrian. “There is a man, someone close to him. No one knows his real name, but they call him Specter. He is Ghost’s right hand.” Adrian’s fingers tapped against his knee. “And what does Specter do?” Viktor’s lips twitched. “Everything Ghost doesn’t want to do himself.” Rosco spoke for the first time. “Where do we find him?”

“I was in and out of sleep.” “Thoughts of Titanic?” He turned to face her now, and he was sitting more closely than she thought prudent. “Sometimes,” she shrugged. “Most of my ghosts reside elsewhere.” He closed his eyes and turned his head away. “I’m sorry, Meg.” “I don’t need your sympathy either,” she reminded him, though her tone was just as innocent as his had been. “I suppose not,” he admitted, turning back to face her. “But you have it just the same.”

Everything was a mess! The man immediately turned his face at the little boy. His face darkened. "Tell me, Little Veen, how did I frighten her? I was merely showing her the memories of my real appearance but, I do not understand why she was so frightened and kept denying my existence even in her sleep." He said in dissatisfaction that reflected on his handsome face. The little boy called Veen coughed softly in a polite manner. "Your appearance now is similar to those of what humans called a ghost. You have not fully recovered your body yet, so you cannot do anything. Just let her be for now."

"Huh?" "They are not ghosts," Havu repeated, correcting Fyn. "They are souls, spirits, if you will. They are entirely different things. Ghosts are wandering things incapable of thought, Spirits, on the other hand, are those whose souls have survived when a being dies and no longer has a physical body in which to live. Ghosts stay in a place, they do not know why they died, they assume they are very much still alive and breathing. Spirits know that they have long run out of time. The reason they are wandering is that of a tie, often emotional, to a loved one. They probably have unfinished business or something they want to tell to those they have left behind."
