"Flowers. Does she like any?"

"You think?" I shake my head to think more clearly.
"White tulips," I confirm, and he nods.
"Perfect! Wait for me here!" Then, he simply opens the door in the midst of traffic, strides hastily across the street, and enters a florist that already has a closed sign. From here, I can see him talking to the lady behind the counter, who seems to explain that they've closed for the day, but he insists. Minutes later, Gael emerges with an extravagant bouquet in his hands, and I cover my mouth, holding back a startled laugh. "There, now we can go!"
