She had regular earrings, but she had an extra one on her left ear—the other pair of mine. She swiftly turned around. I wanted to explain, but I didn’t have the luxury of time, as Gamma Austin had already asked me to start walking toward the building. Jillian went to the car and opened the driver’s side door. “See you at the packhouse, Austin,” she said without looking at me.

Come assist me.” Jillian slowly followed her, wondering how she could just pretend everything was alright when it clearly wasn’t.
