Gabriel stared coldly at Michael without giving out his hand to shake. “Where’s your daughter?” Gabriel hissed annoyingly. Michael pulled back his hand, then frowned. “I brought her to your room yesterday. Don't you remember? I am really sure that you have spent the night together, right?” Gabriel immediately choked Michael’s throat with one of his hands. Michael was shocked and held Gabriel’s wrist until he let go. "What exactly are you doing, Mr. Xander?" Michael tried to utter some words from his choked throat while Cheyne and Ethan were standing and watching.

He stumbled back a step, his hands going to his side, fingers clawing at the thick wool of Michael's coat, trying to pull away from the source of the pain. Michael, still on his back amidst the shattered remains of the coffee table, let out a guttural, triumphant laugh that turned into a hacking cough. He pushed himself up on his elbows, blood streaming from his nose and a deep gash on his forehead, but his eyes were alight with vicious satisfaction. He watched Mace intently, a predator savoring the moment its prey realizes it's trapped.

"I don't care what you think. Show me the footage." Damian hesitated. Then he pulled out his phone. Pulled up a video file. Handed it to me. I watched. There was Jace. Small and alone walking down a dark street. His backpack on his shoulders. His dinosaur probably in his arms. He looked exhausted. Scared. My baby. Then Michael appeared from an alley. I'd forgotten how big he was. How tall. In my memory he'd been gentle and soft but on the screen he looked massive next to Jace.

The sound was incredibly weak, entirely raspy, and it cracked noticeably on the second word before dissolving into a harsh, rattling coughing fit that echoed loudly against the high ceilings of the mansion. I froze completely and turned my head slowly to look back toward the custom leather sofa. The smaller guy had stood up immediately in a total panic, hovering nervously over Michael and placing a tentative hand against his broad shoulder. The stranger turned his face toward me, and the sudden realization hit me with the force of a physical blow to the stomach. Xavier replied coldly, "without hesitation." Adrian gasped. "I think my heart just broke." Neither Xavier nor I reacted. Instead, Xavier casually slipped his arm around mine. I instinctively wrapped my arm around his as well, and together we walked toward the building's exit. Ghost was already waiting outside in the sleek black SUV parked in front of the company tower. The moment he spotted us, he stepped out and respectfully opened the rear door. Xavier gestured for me to enter first. I slid into the backseat, followed by Xavier, while Adrian climbed into the passenger seat beside Ghost.

“ I don't really know her full name, but she should be in her late forties, or early fifties.” ‘ It's not the daughter,’ Ghost confirmed in his mind. “ Okay,” he packed his bag and stood up to leave. “ Wait,” Michael stopped him, “ What about my family? Will they be safe? I will confess everything to the police, please just don't hurt my family,” he cried. “ It's not my call, my master will decide,” he said emotionlessly and walked away.

As soon as he said this, the nurse who was outside, opened the door and they all stepped inside. Xander, who heard the noise, slowly turned his head and despite his pale look, he managed to give his friend a tiny nod as a form of greeting. Michael let out a half laugh and said with a teasing smile because of how pale Xander’s face. “Jeez man, you look like a ghost”. Hearing this, Xander frowned and soon after, his lips curved slightly as he retorted back. “And you look like someone who has been deprived of sleep.”

Just that—no face, no real clues, just movement and shadows. “Let me zoom in,” Michael mutters, leaning closer. I fold my arms, unimpressed. He looks up, eyes locked on mine. “This figure… it looks exactly like Camille.” I blink once. Then I laugh—short and humorless. “It’s someone in a jacket, Michael. Could be anyone. That’s not Camille.” “But the height—” “You’re grasping,” I cut in. “She’s not a ghost. She’s not alive. Stop turning grief into conspiracy.”

“Split… blood?” “A hybrid,” he clarified. I scoffed, shaking my head. “There are no hybrids here. Everyone in this pack is a full-blooded wolf.” “Maybe not everyone.” “Michael,” I hissed, “you’re chasing ghosts.” “Ghosts might be my only option!” he said simply.
