“It suits you,” Eleanor said, and for a moment, her eyes held a flicker of something that might have been genuine approval.
They ate a late lunch, the contents of the hamper, supplemented by Keira’s slightly soggy roast potatoes. The conversation was kept safely in the shallow end: Emma’s school play, the weather, James and Isabella’s upcoming ski trip.
