When I went to his office he wasn’t there. He hasn’t been there since September.”

What happened to her? She laughed again, “Unfortunately for me, I wasn't given that luxury.” Then she finally raised her head up and I could see the bruising under her eyes. The slightly purple blotch on the side of her neck, half-covered by her scarf. The weariness that clung to her like second skin. I gasped again, holding my chest. She got beaten up?! Why?! How?! “Ginny.” She said quietly, “Was never the child you all think she was. She has mental issues. When she was thirteen years old, Ginny killed a dog by hanging it on a tree. She smiled as she watched the dog suffocate to death.”

Autumn’s expression turned cold as she looked at them. "Ms. Rivers, if your eyesight’s failing, you should see a doctor. Which eye of yours saw me hurting Luna? During the conversation, I learned that the girl in black was named Lydia Muller. "Are you two friends? Or coworkers?" I asked casually. Ginny replied softly, "We're—sisters." I nodded, then continued to ask, "Aren't you afraid that I might do it again while we're stuck here?" Ginny gave me a deep look, her voice quiet but clear. "At least you seem kinder than your cousin. Besides, they're busy in the front now." I was taken aback—Eric had really strong stamina!

He had the making of a protector and a strong one at that, like his father. I found myself wishing so many things for him. I wished that he grew strong, that he would bow to no one's whims and lean to unbiased opinions. I wished he grew up having a strong sense of self, and I prayed that we did the right thing taking him here in his awful world, protraying the weak at their lowest points and the strong being guttoral and insensitive. Ginny shines a little brighter now that she's had a proper bath and new clothes. I can see that she's a little older. The streaks in her hair aren't a dead give away, she could be younger but times have been tough on all of us.
