I stole my childhood friend’s doll. Then, he called to complain. I listened to him wail as the doll sat in my hand, its texture somehow akin to that of human skin. Under its skirt was something remarkably female. This left me confused. ‘Is this doll female or male?’ Then, more importantly… ‘Did it come with both organs? Or is this modified?’ He sounded hysterical over the line. Surprised by this, I accidentally squished the doll’s limbs a little.

I don’t know, but I did give him the sharpest glare I could muster as I listened to him speak whatever fabrication would slip through his lips. “Words had been getting out far too quickly. The great kingpin had taken possession of what was it that he call you?” he pauses for a moment, bringing his index finger to his chin and pretending as though he was mulling over his thought before he smirks, “—a doll, yes. His eyes turn as round as saucers, lower lips trembling, "Night goblins?" Harry nods seriously, "Nasty little creatures. They like to chew your toes like candy. But they only think little boys who lie taste like candy." I elbow my younger brother, muttering, "Stop giving him nightmares." Toby immediately buries his face in my shoulder, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I ate the candy! I don't want the night goblins to eat my toes!"

He fought the overpowering urge to summon his dragon and hail down fire and brimstone upon Lord Orc and his kind, destroying every single one of them savages. “Good d-day, my dist-tinguis-shed k-kings.” The globin welcomed, sauntering to the front of the cave, his eyes round with mischief. “Today-y, we h-have some rare, m-magical relics for the p-possessions of kings.” A boisterous cheer and applause resounded and the goblin giggled, his head stiff to his neck. “B-bring in the first item-m.” He waved over a younger globin who wheeled in a double-edged silver sword.

It sounds like a rat scrapping its nails against wood, and my eyes dart towards the doors where I notice a small creature struggling to get out from beneath the doors. I zip towards it and grab the greenish desperate creature while calling Taren. With knit brows, I blink with surprise. “Is this a Goblin?” But it's way too small- Ah, it’s a Boggart in disguise. “Did you find something?” Taren’s voice enters the hall and I reply while standing upright to bring the Goblin into his view, “Yeah, something to provide answers to what’s going on here.” “Let me go! Next to him sat his friend, Archie, who was busily trying to build a giant wall out of plastic buckets. Toby held a small red toy truck, rolling it over the edge of the sandbox. “Vroom, vroom," Toby made low engine noises with his mouth, pushing the truck up a pile of dirt. "Look, Archie! My monster truck is climbing the big mountain!" Archie didn't look up, smashing a plastic bucket down onto the sand. "My castle is bigger. It’s for the dinosaurs." "Trucks can smash dinosaurs," Toby declared proudly, making his truck jump through the air and land right next to Archie’s feet.

"When you get out, your sister will definitely make it up to you." Then she turned and walked away. Just like that. I felt my body shake as I clutched the bars, watching her disappear down in those expensive heels. It was the first gift I bought for her when I started making some money. Anna, her beloved daughter, had never gotten her more than a cheap bracelet down the store. I gasped for breath, my chest rising and falling erratically as I screamed. "MUM! MUM! MUM!"
