At the start, it's the ultimate deus ex machina—literally a 'system' handed to him by a god-like being—that saves him from being the weakest hunter and rewrites his destiny. But that's the core of the issue: it removes any sense of organic struggle or earned power-up through traditional training or inner realization. His growth becomes quantified, a series of quests and notifications, which is a brilliant narrative device for a power fantasy, but it externalizes his motivation. He's not driven by a personal code or philosophy he hones over time; he's following instructions from an unknown entity to get stronger, mostly to protect his sister. The character growth feels less about moral or ethical maturation and more about leveling up his stats and unlocking new skills.

Where the statue's influence gets more interesting, and maybe a bit messed up, is in how it reshapes his very humanity. The 'Architect' behind the system is using him as a vessel, a tool. Jinwoo's increasing coldness, his strategic detachment, his willingness to make ruthless calculations—these aren't just traits of a hardened survivor; they feel like side effects of the system's programming. His growth is a metamorphosis into something more commander than man. You could argue his love for his sister and his few allies is the last anchor to his old self, the part the statue hasn't overwritten. So the statue doesn't really facilitate character growth in a traditional sense; it forces a replacement. He outgrows his former weak self so completely that he becomes a different species, both literally and emotionally. The final evolution into a full Shadow Monarch feels like the ultimate acceptance of that preordained path, which is satisfying for the power curve but leaves a slight hollow note about who Sung Jinwoo the person ever got to choose to be.
