The guards had stocked up on instant meals. Better yet, there was a full toolbox—hammers, axes, the works. If zombies found me, I wasn't going down without a fight. Seconds crawled. A faint metallic smell drifted through the air. On the cot, the three cats slept like nothing was coming. I checked my watch. 5, 4, 3... 2... 1... [Welcome to the Zombie Apocalypse World. The game begins now. All players, do your best to survive.] The mechanical voice rang in my ears.

Surprisingly enough, I was reborn to the timeframe where there were six hours left before the zombie outbreak began. Memories of my past life were replayed in my mind like a movie reel. It was as if I could still smell the rotten and bloodied stench wafting from the zombies. With a trembling hand, I felt my neck. Although it felt smooth and flawless, I could still feel phantom pain flaring from it. The moment my phone's screen lit up, I turned my attention to it immediately. It was currently October 2nd, 2025, also known as the day the zombie virus was leaked.

He stared at his empty palm, muttering, "What's going on? Where's my power? Isn't the spatial power already mine?" A second later, I activated my spatial power and sucked all the zombies around me into an unknown space. Chris couldn't even last until rescue arrived. The zombies bit off his limbs. Blood gushed from his body. The other contestants scattered in fear. When the competition ended, I was the only one who remained unscathed. No one could accuse me of having no superpower anymore.

On the day the zombie outbreak occurs, I tell my boyfriend, Valerio Petrucci, to come over and hide in my apartment, where my front door is already reinforced. Soon, sounds of the door being knocked can be heard. I'm about to get up when transparent comment bubbles appear in front of my eyes. "Don't open the door! Valerio isn't the only one out there—there are a bunch of loan sharks with him as well!" "One of them is already infected with the zombie virus and is about to turn into a zombie!"

"So you were reborn too! That's why…" For a moment, confusion crossed her face. "But you're just a commoner. How could you possibly stop the zombies?" In my past life, I had fought zombies in the field and spent every spare moment helping in the lab. I had never stopped learning. I had been part of creating the zombie cure, so I knew how to make it. I kicked her aside. "Reborn or not, you're still just as stupid." A sudden, deafening bang ripped through the air, and what came next happened in an instant, catching everyone completely off guard.

My strength wasn’t enough. Echo’s voice whispered through the chaos: “Creation meets corruption. When the Verdant touches death, it becomes hunger. You must sever the link, or it will consume what remains of you.” The mutated zombie lunged through the breach, its claws slicing through the air. Noah fired, three perfect headshots — but it didn’t fall. The bullets only slowed it, ichor spilling from its skull like tar. I reached deeper, pushing through the pain. “Verdant Snare!”

Everyone’s phone went off at once. "What?" Liam’s fiancée, Chloe, frowned, moving closer to his side. I looked down at my phone. A blood-red scale appeared on the screen. [Welcome to The Last Zombie: Final Reckoning.] [Detected: 15 members of the Sterling family.] [Objective: Eliminate all zombies. The last player standing inherits the entire family fortune.] [Current Asset Valuation: $12.7 Billion.] The living room went dead silent. "What kind of sick joke is this?" Liam tried to close the app, but the screen wouldn't budge. "Who made this?"

“Come out, you bastard.” Her grip tightened, lifting him off the ground effortlessly. He thrashed, clawing at her wrist, but she held firm, strangling the life from him. “YES!” she growled, her voice laced with something ancient, something unholy. “COME OUT, THAN! SHOW YOURSELF!” The sky churned. The shadows quivered. Zander’s limbs went slack. His vision dimmed. And then— The earth cracked beneath her feet. Her balance faltered. Zander’s body crashed to the ground, gasping. A howl—deep, unearthly—split the silence.

It crumples to the ground and doesn't move again. I look around for my next target, and I spot a red abandoned car parked diagonally in the middle of the road. Sprinting for it, I leap up onto the hood of the car and then to the top, where I can get a better view of all the zombies without being in danger of getting bitten. Aaron follows suit, climbing to the top of a blue jeep with busted out windows.

Brie sat with wide eyes. No way. No way was this real. On the computer screen, flashed four big words. "THE WORLD IS ENDING." She scrolled through twitter, seeing tweets on how to stay alive. Apparently, it was a virus only caught if the body fluids of a carrier entered your body. Brie glanced at Adam, thinking about his wound. What about Melissa? "Okay... Focus." She patted the desk and continued to read. Hopefully, there'd be something helpful, something to keep them alive. She spotted a specific article a stranger had made a few hours ago.
