Desires And Captivity
The runes on my dagger began to dim.
“Nathan, there are too many of them!” I cried as a round grazed my shoulder.
Nathan leapt to my side, spreading his wings to form a shield around us. I could see the exhaustion in him. His wounds were not healing as fast as before. The inhibitor tower was still active, draining his life force.
“Sadira has to hurry,” Nathan growled. “If she does not shut down the tower within a minute, we both die here.”
At that moment, the massive antenna atop the base began to tremble. The red light suddenly shifted to a pale green white, and a piercing, high frequency sound flooded the valley. The hybrids dropped to their knees in unison, clutching their heads.
