The piece was so carefully beaded, each pearl reflecting my disheveled hair and sweaty face. It had strange gems attached beneath it and the heart shaped pendant, looked like it was filled with blood. My hand stretched to open it but a smooth voice rasped behind me and made me freeze.

Blood dripped from my hand and splattered onto the hardwood. I stood there breathing hard, staring at my shattered reflection. Pathetic. At the broken man staring back at me through a hundred shattered pieces. Slowly, my hand slipped into my pocket. My bloody fingers sank deep until it closed around a small velvet box.
