She said jokingly as she threw him the key. He unlocked the restraint and stayed still, unable to move because he knew it would be pointless to try and attack her, much less try to run away. He looked at her, eyes stared widely at the half filled glass with no ice. His eyes moved past her tired eyes and studied the room. The shelf that was at his right was filled with books that were arranged according to the genre and most of them were fictional, thriller and horror novels whose seal hadn't been opened and only seemed to collect dust. The others were based on psychology, anatomy and various poisons. He felt more anxious than before.

“Keep following them, Jared. Let me know if you see anything else suspicious.” “Will do, Alpha.” I sit back and stare off into space. Reid is looking at me. “Well?” “She took her mother and sister to a warehouse in an industrial park. Jared said that inside, it looked like a command center, but there were no laptops or electronics. There were disguises though. When they came out of the warehouse, Thalia had a duffel bag and garment bags.” I told him. “She did say she was a hitman. Do you think she was bullshitting about that, or could she have been serious?” Reid asked.

"Don't promise what you can't deliver. Many detectives worked the case before. They all ended up murdered. I'm warning you for your own good." I couldn't stop the shiver that bolts down my spine. All the detectives who solved this case ended up dead? And without doubt, by the killers of the boy?! My brain went through an instant override, and then it dawned on me. "It is a thriller one, you know where someone commits a heavy crime and murders the main character's whole family.." "Yeah? Interesting," he went back onto the very first page. This guy really just read the author's note, oh my goodness he is killing me... "Give it back." "Eh, maybe when I finish it," he smirks. "Not a chance, Ellis, hand it over."

I sat beside her, and she immediately stretched her legs back out, her feet landing in my lap. "What are you reading?" She held up the book without looking away from the page. "A mystery novel. A detective in Victorian London." I caught sight of the cover. A woman in a low-cut dress leaned against a man in a top hat, their faces inches apart in the fog. The Scarlet Letter Murders. I grabbed the book from her hands. "Hey!" She sat up, reaching for it. I flipped through a few pages. My eyes landed on a passage. His mouth found the hollow of her throat as his fingers worked the laces of her corset…

Most things are about detectives and all their boring stuff but something tells me to go through it because I might know a thing or two. I've opened almost all the books on the first shelf. Turns out detective books are not so bad. I also passed out my time by checking some of the murder novels on the shelve. One really caught my interest. Dying to call you by Elaine Viet. It's about a girl finding her sister's murderer and all that.
