I stayed where I was, distant in a way he wasn’t used to. “She told me she’s pregnant,” I went on, my voice steady, “but she just found out her husband is cheating. Another woman is pregnant too. She can’t decide whether to pretend nothing happened or confront him and ask for a divorce.”

Gloria said calmly. “Oh, stop it, Gloria. If it wasn’t for Victor, we would still be rotting in poverty right now. He's too good for you. He's the perfect husband. EMILY, THOMPSON I exited the elevator and grabbed my luggage. Clutching the gift I had purchased for that despicable person, I decided to give it to a random passerby. Although initially hesitant, I managed to hand it over. "It was originally intended for my boyfriend, but I just caught him cheating on me with my best friend," I explained, a strange smile on my face. "Um... I'm sorry and thank you," he responded, accepting the gift and walking away.

But I also couldn't explain what I'd just discovered, that my entire wedding had been built on a fundamental deception. "I need to go," I whispered.
