Penny leaned in closer, her voice taking on a mocking tone. "Did the cat cut out your tongue, Ava?" she taunted. I took a deep breath and stepped forward, trying to regain control of the situation. "Why do I need to show you?" I asked, stalling for time. Penny's response was immediate. "So I can believe you.” I burst out laughing, the sound echoing through the room. Penny's eyes widened in confusion, her gaze piercing as if trying to read my true intentions. Meanwhile, I was using the laughter to mask my growing anxiety. They whimpered and took off, running away from Penny and Claire. Her eyes followed the old women as they ran off clumsily. "Don't you think those two were weird? They were acting like we were some kind of monsters!" Penny said cluelessly. Claire put her hands on the hips and glared at her friend. "They're not weird, it's you! Idiot, if you're going to wear that head mask in a place like this and talk to people, of course they'll freak out!" She slapped Penny on the back of her head and pointed at the pigeon head mask she was wearing.

I mutter under my breath, my discomfort palpable. With a shake of his head, Archie strides over to the liquor cabinet, his movements purposeful yet tinged with concern.
