Veiled Deception

Veiled Deception

“This is not that serious.” It was a manuscript. That’s all. A book. A story. Something written. Something finished. But that wasn’t how it felt. And that was the problem. I walked back to the drawer. Slower this time. More aware. More deliberate. I reached down. Picked up the manuscript. And for a second— just held it. It felt the same. Light. Ordinary. Unassuming. Which made everything worse. Because nothing about it felt ordinary anymore. “If she knows,” I said quietly,

The Purrfect Love Story

The Purrfect Love Story

“Guess I’ll need security for Goose.” He smirked, his thumb brushing lazily over my shoulder. “I’ll take that gig.” The room smelled like candle wax and cinnamon, the kind of cozy chaos I’d once only written about. My notebook sat on the table, a clean new one with a sticker that read Book Two. I picked it up, running my fingers over the cover before flipping it open. Alexander looked up from his work—a brief glance, the kind of glance that said I see you, I registered your presence, I am not interrupting my work but I am also not ignoring you—and then looked back down. I had a lot to review, ranging from novels to articles, and documentaries. I worked fucking hard to be ridiculed. I picked up the first novel manuscript from the cart full of papers then I opened the first chapter. It was a werewolf contemporary novel, and it got me drowned for a while until Mr. Bernard barged in with a pile of files. I raised my head to see him, shutting the door with his feet.

So far, no tantrums whatsoever. “Coow Miwk, what you weadin’?” Clutching a handful of colored Sharpees, Clancey doddered toward him to check out the manuscript he was burying his head in. “Just something for work. This book is a real hidden gem. The storyline is captivating, the descriptions are on point without dragging on senseless, and the characters are captivating. In my opinion, this is a story that can and should be published so everyone can enjoy it. Good work!
