Mom grinned at her friends. “I used to have a hard time believing those stories my grandfather used to tell about my grandmother. She immigrated to Louisiana from Colombia. Grandpa loved talking about the day he met my grandmother. He’d been setting traps for animals, and swore he saw a lynx walk into one. When he went to check it, he found a very naked, very angry, very pretty, Colombuian woman swearing at him in rapid Spanish. Grandma would just smack him upside the head, and call him, ‘idiota negro.’”
