"Elara!" Julian's voice was tight with fear. He had hit the floor twenty feet to her left. His dark coat slid across the stone until his boots hit the base of a structural pillar. He was solid now, his breathing heavy, his left hand pressing against a cut on his head. A piece of glass had cut him during the fall. The silver mist was gone, replaced by blood on his jawline. There was no time to check his injuries. The entire ninety-story skyscraper was groaning, its steel skeleton twisting under the weight of a change in the city's gravity.

The fall was more than something he could control. He couldn’t stop the scream that forced itself out of his mouth as he found himself struggling against the force of gravity. His body hit the window guards from the top most floor and his head also hit one of the opened window glasses and continued downward until it got to the middle floor at the fourth second where it hit another opened glass window, all this slowing down his movement and increasing the pains of his fall. He closed his eyes in anticipation of his death as he continued falling.

I slid it into my pocket I don't know why maybe I just didn't want to leave it there. It took hours to reach the edge of downtown the city looked like it had been swallowed by the apocalypse and spit back out in pieces, whole blocks had fallen into glowing cracks in the ground. Some buildings floated, literally floated, a few feet off the ground, their foundations twisting like they were caught between gravity and something else. And the rift… I could still see it above the skyline, a jagged tear running across the horizon, pulsing faintly like a heartbeat. Sometimes, when the wind shifted, I thought I could hear whispers,
