Adrian’s heart skipped a beat. Normally, such a deep underground location would not harbor any living beings, so why was there a guardian spirit here? Remaining cautious, Adrian responded, "I'm an apprentice of Purecastle, and I’m here to train. If you know what’s good for you, you'd best step aside." He pointed his sword at the guardian spirit. The guardian spirit's anger flared. It roared, "An apprentice of Purecastle has no right to take a single step further! You’re just seeking death!"

“I’ll be damned if I let this creature try to lay one hand on you.” “I can help.” Rain screamed when a portal appeared. The little girl from before, followed by the Spiritborn, stepped out. “Oh god, it’s that thing again,” Rain moaned. The girl blinked slowly. “This thing, as you say, is the reason the twins stand a chance. But understand the Spiritborn is merely a guardian, a neutral guardian that gives powers to those who pass the trials.” I swallowed hard. My stomach clenched, and I felt the pulse of old magic stir beneath my skin. “Please don’t tell me it’s about to give me more trials.”

They won’t harm you now that they know you’re with me.’ Swallowing thickly, I pulled my arm away from her and murmured, ‘So it’s true,’ my lip trembled as I tried to get the words out, ‘I’m dead?’

Stephen sat down on the opposite couch. “After the Grand Marshal passed away, his student took over his duties and brought peace to Riveria. But he got tired of everything and decided to step down. Then he saw you, an orphan with nothing. He took pity on you and gave you all the credit, allowing you to join the Quinns and have a new identity.
