Half-life: Blue Shift Chapters Novels & Stories

[RHIANNON] Twenty-four hours until the Blue Moon Ceremony. I marked time in fragments—dawn breaking grey through my window, noon sun too bright against tired eyes, dusk settling heavy like a weight I couldn't shake. One more day. That's all I had to survive before the ceremony forced me to stand beside Kael and pretend everything was fine. 'Just make it through today,' I told myself. 'Figure out the rest later.' The air felt charged, humming with magic that made my skin prickle. The Blue Moon already pulled at something deep in my chest, amplifying the bond until every emotion felt too sharp, too raw.

Those that were lucky to conceive, eventually die. Some were lucky enough to stay alive to bear at most three young ones and eventually die immediately after the third one. They are only one percent of them out of the whole supernatural world combined. However, in the fifth decade following the plague, a prophecy came to light in every supernatural race at the same time, that in every century a blue-blooded female will be reincarnated, and her blood can cure the plague of the supernatural race if the ruler was lucky enough to mate with her and drink from her blood daily.

The words were a blade straight through my heart. "She's dying—" "She's dead." He cut me off, his tone flat. "Look at her. Blue blood. Hybrids don't bleed red. They bleed that." He pointed at the glowing liquid. "And when it stops glowing, they stop breathing." I looked down. The blue light was fading. Lyra's chest wasn't moving. "No." The word was a whisper. Then a roar. "NO!" I shook her gently, then harder. Her head lolled. Her eyes stayed open, but they were empty now. The violet I had fallen in love with was gone, replaced by a dull, milky grey.

“Are you sure, Annie? I mean… I am not…” "It's the last hours before I turn sixteen," I muttered, already shrugging out of my underwear. "I want to … think, I guess? About all the wrong decisions I made this year and how I can do something different next year." Lena nodded. As much as she was personally assigned to me by my Dad, who is the Alpha of the Blue Moon Pack, Lena was still a friend who understood that sometimes, my feelings were more important than the instructions of the Alpha. “Don’t forget to turn off the candles,” she said as she pulled away. “And I’ll be right here if you need anything.”

Killian gave Alys a curious glance but smartly backed up a bit for Aiden’s sake. “Now back to that book. It’s a book on mixed blood in general. All types of mixtures, hybrids, all that. Now it should be just around here…” Killian walked off back to the shelf he was at. “Ah ha! Here it is.” He exclaimed in triumph, pulling a large tome from the shelf. It looked very old and had a leather cover. Alys excitedly rushed over and tenderly reached out for the book taking it from him, Aiden had followed her and was looking at it over her shoulder.

Selina~ The word *Finally* rolled through the core chamber like a thunderclap that needed no air. The light around us shifted from white to a deep, vibrant blue that burned and froze all at once. The door the core had opened did not stay open; it turned inside out, transforming into a gaping maw. Beyond it lay no salvation—only a presence possessing weight, hunger, and a memory stretching back further than any stone on the mountain.

6:12 AM — Sector B, Bluebar Trace The blue to rust line had remained in Elira's periphery well after the stylus started tracing. The pages of the notebook captured each bend, each fissure, the manner in which the blue tile held onto its color while the rusty portion seemed to slide into the ground as if it was embarrassed about itself. Caelan didn’t speak at first. He stepped to her right, his gaze following hers toward the strip of junction where history had decided to divide itself.

They had a good reason to fear a trap. The moment Zayla and Bella pressed their palms against the relic’s cold, coiled bone, the world erupted into chaos. The ceiling hissed and heaved; a web of glassy veins sprang to life, channeling a blizzard of blue fire into the walls. The dead shifters surrounding the column spasm one last time, their bodies hollowed by centuries, but still not nearly hollow enough. Their skulls jerked on broken necks, jaws dropping in near-unison rictus, and what bled their eye sockets wasn’t mere emptiness, but smoke and wrath—shadows erupting like wasps from a nest.

"The shimmer pattern is consistent with residual probability energy, not mana, not elemental trace, but something older." Darius looked at Kael, and Kael shrugged. He learned that the correct response was to acknowledge Hale's statement when he said something was older. Hale finished his notes, took a small glass vial from his bag, and held it near the shimmer without touching the wall. The liquid inside turned faintly blue at the edges. Not silver, but blue, and Hale looked at it. "Different from your field output," he said to Kael. "Related but not identical, and this predates your arrival."

Note: While it might seem strange to some to have a large time jump in a book, Please know that in the original series, this is chapter one of book three. I have combined all four books into one long story. Just before there is any confusion. ***************************************************************************** Chapter Fifty Eight ** 100 Years Later ** Cole’s Point of View
