When the door opened, the light caught his wire-rimmed glasses, making his eyes invisible behind twin reflective discs. He was tall and handsome, with blond hair combed smoothly back from his forehead and light skin that seemed to glow in the dim cellar light. I couldn’t help but think of Dr. Cullen from those vampire movies—Carlisle Cullen. The irony wasn’t lost on me that my jailer and his medical accomplice shared a name. Good vampire, bad vampire—both feeding on me in their own way.
